2020 is the year of the protests. Demonstrators first flouted lockdown orders in efforts to support the controversial Black Lives Matter movement (BLM). Those protests turned firey and violent as the movement forgot about their mission to show Americans that “Black Lives Matter” and instead vowed to end the patriarchy and criticized Americans’ desire to support the ‘nuclear family.’
The ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests bred the Antifa riots. Antifa stands for anti-fascists. However, it operates using fascist tactics and acts more like an organized terrorist cell than a liberation movement. Antifa made its way to American cities – mostly Democrat-run – to protest President Trump, calling him a fascist dictator. The movement is responsible for millions of dollars worth of damage in these cities. They burned down buildings after looting the contents with zero accountability.
In Los Angeles, Mayor Garcetti is experiencing day 16 of “Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles continued protests outside [his] official residence.” Mayor Garcetti –who is a supporter of the defund the police movement popular in the Black Lives Matter organization – is using the LAPD to protecting his home from the “mostly peaceful” protests. These protests are allowed to continue without Mayor Garcetti holding them accountable while lockdown protests are stifled.
Many in America feel that social justice protests are allowed to occur even though they are responsible for spreading Covid in the same way anti-lockdown protests stand accused. The press and local elected officials welcomed these protests and riots because they saw it as a necessary part of our functioning republic.
Everyday Americans pushed back against this narrative, claiming there are two standards for justice and what is allowed. While millions of Americans struggle with the effects of the lockdowns, they turn the television on to see the media and local governments giving these “super-spreader” events a pass in the court of public opinion while damning other protests that also affect all Americans.

Americans have had enough with the double standards and are fighting the continued lockdowns after states elected to take a step back and again issue harsh lockdown orders causing even more small businesses to close their doors, in some instances for good.
Over the weekend, anti-lockdown protestors burned masks in NYC. The Daily Mail reported that “demonstrators gathered in Washington Square Park, New York City, on Sunday afternoon for the ‘No Lockdown in NYC’ event. They carried signs reading ‘Stop Covid Tyranny,’ ‘No More Lockdowns’ and ‘Medical Freedom Now.’ Pictures show some of the protesters confronting other New Yorkers wearing masks.”
In Minnesota: “Demonstrators rallied outside the Minnesota Governor’s Residence in St. Paul on November 21, to protest measures enacted by Gov Tim Walz to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Organizers of the so-called ‘Stuff your mandate protest’ said they were ‘protesting the unconstitutional mandate’ enforced on the state’s citizens. Footage from Tucker Luskey shows protesters outside the front gate singing The Star-Spangled Banner, followed by chants of ‘let us work,’ ‘open schools,’ and ‘no more masks.’ “
In California: “Some upset Los Angeles County residents had enough of the new COVID-19 restrictions that were put in place last week and decided to make their feelings known to the woman who was responsible: Dr. Barbara Ferrer. Ferrer is the director of the Los Angeles Department of Public Health and was the one to implement new restrictions that included a ban on outdoor dining at restaurants. Anti-lockdown protesters marched to Ferrer’s home in the Elysian Heights neighborhood to make their opposition to the new lockdowns loud and clear.”
In Idaho: “Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Central District Health parking lot before and during the meeting. The protest at the health building was organized, at least in part, by a loose multi-state group called People’s Rights. The board had been expected to vote on a four-county mask mandate in Idaho’s most populated region.”
Americans are fed up with double standards. Why is social justice causes an appropriate reason to gather in large numbers. Still, protests against the lockdowns – that Americans claim steal their individual freedoms as well as their ability to support their families – are looked at as harmful to our republic? With growing bi-partisan support for the movement against lockdowns; States will struggle to balance push back from its citizens and their responsibility to keep them safe.
Thomas Jefferson once said that he places the “economy among the first and most important Republican virtues.”
