Lubbock, Texas has voted to ban abortion within city limits in a measure that has passed 62 percent to 38 percent.
The ordinance declaring the city a “sanctuary city for the unborn,” is likely to face legal challenges.
Per The Hill “about two dozen cities have passed similar measures, but Lubbock is the biggest thus far and the only one of the cities with an existing abortion provider within its boundaries, according to the Tribune. ”
State Rep. Dustin Burows (R) celebrated the move, saying “today is a victory for life and proof that the silent majority will still stand up for its Christian conservative values.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the pro-Choice Planned Parenthood group said “we want Lubbock residents to know: Our doors are open and we will continue to advocate for our patients, no matter what.”
Lubbock voters overwhelmingly approved a proposition that tries to ban abortion there, making it Texas’ largest “sanctuary city for the unborn.” The vote comes less than a year after Planned Parenthood opened a clinic in the West Texas city. https://t.co/fvtRcxMBRV
