Almost immediately after Texas Governor Greg Abbott rescinded the mask mandate and opened his state back up for business the Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District followed suit and announced and end to mask mandates in its schools, the Daily Wire reports.
The statement from the Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District reads:
“Lubbock-Cooper ISD has been in compliance with Governor Abbott’s order regarding facial coverings, GA-29. As of Wednesday, March 10, order GA-29 is rescinded, and the State of Texas will no longer require individuals to wear facial coverings. Accordingly, Lubbock-Cooper ISD will no longer require individuals to wear facial coverings. Students and staff members who wish to continue wearing facial coverings are certainly permitted to do so. In following the guidance of Governor Abbott and other state officials, the district will continue to adhere to all mandates as written and will not impose any additional restrictions. The district will continue disease mitigation practices, including frequent hand washing and enhanced cleaning processes. Additional information regarding COVID-19 guidelines will be provided by campus administrators in the coming days.”
The LCISD website states, in part “LCISD schools hold several titles for academic and athletic competitions, and the demand for a Lubbock-Cooper education is so overwhelming that it is the second fastest-growing school district in the state of Texas. Though the graduating class of 2020 was approximately 29 times larger than the 1937 graduating class of Cooper Rural High School, the district has successfully maintained a hometown environment while offering opportunities afforded to students in larger, more urbanized districts.”
This comes just after the Texas Governor lifted the state’s mask mandate and opened most businesses back up to 100% capacity, as Reuters reports:

“Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued the most sweeping rollback of coronavirus restrictions of any U.S. state on Tuesday, lifting a mask mandate and saying most businesses may open at full capacity next week.
Abbott’s executive order comes as many U.S. states and major cities seeing a sharp decline in coronavirus infections and hospitalizations begin to ease the unprecedented lockdowns put in place a year ago.
“It is now time to open Texas 100%,” Abbott, a first-term Republican, told a news conference. He said the order would take full effect on March 10.
The order lifts all mask requirements statewide and forbids local authorities from penalizing residents who do not wear a face covering. It removes all restrictions on businesses in counties without a high number of hospitalizations.
Local officials can still apply limits to businesses where hospitalizations remain high, according to the order, but were prohibited from mandating that they operate at less than 50% capacity.
The governor said he was able to lift the restrictions because Texas, the third most-populous U.S. state, had administered nearly 5.7 million vaccine shots to its 29 million residents.
According to Abbott’s office, by the end of March every senior who wants a vaccine would be able to get one.
The decision puts Texas in conflict with U.S. President Joe Biden, a Democrat who has urged Americans to keep taking COVID-19 precautions, including wearing masks, until vaccinations have fully tamped down the virus.”
