The internet had a fun time over the past week, making fun of cold Texans playing in the snow or complaining of the cold weather. The state was hit by a Winter storm that put down millions of Texans without power as green energy failed in the state. The wind turbine touted as our energy savior failed Texans as the Winter storm blew in and froze the blades providing important power to the grid.
Texas reported more than 3 million homes and businesses in the state went without power on Wednesday, and the governor was livid. As the Governor saw the power outages rise, he sprung to action and told Texas energy companies to put Texans without power first. Bloomberg reported that “Texas Governor Greg Abbott is banning sales of the state’s natural gas beyond its borders to cope with an energy crisis triggered by frigid weather that crippled the power grid.”
The governor initially instructed companies to conduct rolling blackouts to help ease the strain, but the burden broke the fragile grid. The press report released by the Governor’s office discusses the steps Governor Abbott is using to get Texans’ power back online.
It says that although “there are still challenges with all sources of generation, resulting from mechanical difficulties, gas supply issues, and the effects of extreme winter weather conditions,” there is help on the way. “The Governor has ordered natural gas producers not to export product out of state until February 21st and instead sell it to providers within Texas.”
After talking to the White House, the Governor worked out a plan that provides “additional resources for Texans and expands the supply of the energy in the state.”
Texas has a governor that took charge. Period. How could you not be happy with the job that he has done? The Governor brought the Texas Railroad Commission, the Public Utility Commission, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and all other appropriate state and local agencies to bring power back to homes and businesses. Abbott also instructed his Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners to increase the available provisional licenses to out-of-state plumbers to address the overwhelming need.
“The State of Texas is working around the clock to provide the resources, assistance, and support that our communities need to respond to the impacts of this winter weather,” said Governor Abbott. “We will continue to exhaust all available methods to restore power for Texans and ensure that our communities can cover.” Governor Abbott is showing how ‘America First’ policies work in Texas.
