Just when you think that it’s impossible for Democrats to get any dumber than they already are, they surprise you.
Now we learn that nearly three dozen House Democrats are pressuring the Biden administration to give up the president’s sole launch authority for nuclear weapons in favor of a committee composed of others in the line of presidential succession, as Politico reports:
“…Vesting one person with this authority entails real risks,” states the letter spearheaded by Rep. Jimmy Panetta of California. “Past presidents have threatened to attack other countries with nuclear weapons or exhibited behavior that caused other officials to express concern about the president’s judgment.“
“While any president would presumably consult with advisors before ordering a nuclear attack, there is no requirement to do so,” the letter adds. “The military is obligated to carry out the order if they assess it is legal under the laws of war. Under the current posture of U.S. nuclear forces, that attack would happen in minutes.”
They offer a number of alternatives, including requiring other officials in the line of succession, such as the vice president and the speaker of the House — “neither of whom can be removed by the president if they disagree — to concur with a launch order.”
This new idea is, having the president give up his command authority is on the face of it, dumber than dirt.
In time of war the commander in chief needs to have the ability to make snap decisions based on circumstances on the ground and there is often no time to consult with a “committee.”
Forcing the president to consult with a committee automatically gives our opponents an automatic advantage in time of war in that it slows down the decision making process.
As much as I dislike Joe Biden, giving up any authority the president has as commander in chief over to a committee is a very dumb idea. Even if the president is dumber than rocks, like Joe Biden.
